It is great for a laptop with very little storage space. How come there are no other webDAV Linux clients for background syncing?webdavfs is only to access the files on the server without having a copy of them on your own laptop. Their Android app is severely lacking on that front. But I am not sure the Nextcloud Desktop client actually can do 2-way sync. But for Linux, the only one that seems up to date and fully functional is the Nextcloud app (which is supported by FileRun). ![]() To my suprise, there are very good MacOS webDAV sync apps, even for Windows 10. But this is not about speed: purely about usability & stability. Ofcourse, webDAV has much more overhead and will not win any speed/perfomance benchmarks. If I add pictures through the FileRun web UI or webDAV, files are automatically scanned, made searchable (even file contents are searchable!), thumbnails and previews are generated via GraphicsMagick and PNGQUANT etc.Īlso, it is more efficient when it comes to renaming/moving files as it has a bit more "awareness". mount.davfs -V davfs2 1.5.5 < To clarify what I mean by synchronize, I mean what umount. The great thing about FileRun, especially when it comes to photos, their thumbnails and previews: they are supported even through webDAV. The client is running KUbuntu 19.10, the server is an egroupware server but this is most probably irrelevant. Resilio, I wanted to test it, but decided to adjust my search parameters. With 1TB QLC SSD in my laptop, imagine what happens when you go from 450GB used space to 850: it stops working), I was forced to turn it off. And after a horrible experience (I renamed a 400GB folder on 1 device, Syncthing didn't catch the rename action, instead thought the original folder was deleted, on my laptop it moved the folder to Syncthing trashcan/.stversions folder, then started uploading the newly named 400GB. Wich in my personal opinion is too limiting. Its WebDAV functionality is included in a module that you installed along with Apache, but is not enabled by default. You can enable and disable these modules to add and remove their functionality from Apache. It's usecase and usability is limited to the imagination of the developers. The Apache web server provides a lot of functionality as optional modules. ![]() To sync my parents PC/laptop for example, I tried Syncthing, but if you search my name on the Syncthing forum you will probably understand why that is not an option anymore. ![]() That is why syncing makes more sense than using webdavfs or similar. If something goes wrong on my side, they should still have their own copy. I want external users (people not on my LAN) to store their data not only on my server: also on their own device. mount.davfs allows you to mount the WebDAV resource identified by webdavserver into the local filesystem at dir. It also uses webDAV and I can already sync or backup folders on my (Android) phones with it just fine. FileRun can be compared with NextCloud but it solely focuses on being the best file cloud (Dropbox/GoogleDrive/Onedrive alternative) without all the other products/services of Nextcloud. I am running an Ubuntu Budgie based low power homeserver and I run FileRun on it, among other things.
